Another nice one from Ralph Van Raat

Ralph is one prolific SOB. I loved his Part, Bryars and Koechlin releases from the past 12 months and this too is a winner.

Fine playing

Raat is indeed a prolific performer of new music. Austbo is no slough either having done a complete Messiaen piano cycle for naxos. The program speaks for itself. It's a wonder that the two pieces are not programed together more often. Still, I felt as if the two of them didn't quite have their hearts in the Messiaen. The notes are played just fine for the most part, but there is no sense of rapture or divine inspiration. Still, if you want to support two young artists, that one point shouldn't distract you from getting this. -Bz
