The third installment of a trilogy that follows an enigmatic figure on an epic quest, Visions of Us on the Land finds Damien Jurado expanding his psychedelic ambitions. “Lon Bella” comes across like a fever dream about Jesus; “ONALASKA” finds distorted electric guitar sparring with beastly caterwauls. And on the trippy indie-folk reverie “Sam and Davy,” Jurado affects his best Neil Young falsetto. Part concept album, part existential epiphany, this is a journey to the edge of one man’s psyche.
