Album Review

As could be guessed from the title, Muy Personal is the most reflective collection of songs in Victor Manuelle's career, with the brassy leads of his usual salsa output replaced by the tropes of Latin pop (including piano, keyboards, and textured acoustic guitar). But the most respected sonero in his generation doesn't just dip a toe into the water; he writes much of his own material — some with prominent help from Sin Bandera's Noel Schajris, who also duets on a song — and makes Muy Personal an album not for lovers, but for those who have loved and lost. Aside from Schajris, Manuelle also duets with Yuridia on "Nuestro Amor Se Ha Vuelto Ayer." As expected, Muy Personal was Manuelle's first album to reach the Latin Pop Albums chart, but not only that, it also hit number one.

What the heck is this?!?!?!?!

This seems to be an experimental album by Victor Manuelle. Singing ballads for the ladies, probably to try his luck in another genre of music and to see if he can increase in sales because the SALSA/MAMBO scene/market is WEAK. Victor Manuelle seems to be following the footsteps of another famous/popular singer - GILBERTO SALSA MONGA, whose last few recordings have NOT been impressive in their entirety. If you like V.M. singing ballads this is for you but if your looking for dance music you WILL NOT find it here. If this were given to me as a gift I'd toss it in the "round file." Otherwise good luck to V.M. on this one.

Victor Manuelle emerged as a leading voice among the generation of New York salsa performers who rose to prominence in the mid-'90s, along with Marc Anthony and India, who were his only rivals in terms of success and popularity. Mentored by Gilberto Santa Rosa and produced by Sergio George, Manuelle regularly topped the tropical charts during his mid-'90s peak, as his albums Victor Manuelle (1996) and A Pesar de Todo (1997) spun off a parade of number one hits. The esteemed sonero continued his hitmaking...
