Album Review

As a youth in the Mississippi Delta, Steve Azar was indoctrinated into the blues and jazz by grizzled musicians hanging outside his father's liquor store. Later, he left his small town for the country stardom of Nashville, and saw his label fold immediately after Heartbreak Town came out, giving him an authenticity that money can't buy. To top it all off, he even bucked industry trends by writing, alone or in collaborations, everything on his recent Mercury debut, Waitin' on Joe. His lyrics are more heartfelt than his contemporaries by far. ~ Brian O'Neill, Rovi

Not a bad CD

I don't really like country music, but this guy is pretty good. Get I don't have to be me (til monday) He sounds a bit like Jack Johnson.

Love this artist!!

My first experience with any of Steve Azar's music, besides "I Don't Have to Be Me" was at a show in Charleston, SC. He was amazing. It took only two songs for me to be hooked. The feeling in his songs as well as the passion with which he played were enough to have me mesmerized. It's clear that he writes from what is in his spirit and soul. That comes out in how he performs his music. That's the difference between a singer and an artist. Steve Azar is definately an artist. I'm only sorry that there aren't more of his songs out there to hear.

Waitin' On Joe

Steve did a free concert in IL. summer 06'. We went for the headliner but fell in love with Steve. His band had incredible energy and his music hooks you. He gave thanks to his friend for writing I Don't Have To Be Me ('Til Monday). They took the time afterwards to take pictures and give autographs with my daughter & many others. They were humble & great to talk to. If he is in your area he's worth seeing.
