A Great Acoustic Album

I was never a really big Men at Work fan, though like everyone else in my generation (ah, the 80's), I took to the clever songwriting and funny lyrics (So, you gonna play football this year Johnny?) but largely relegated the band and their music to the same level of musicianship as "Men Without Hats" and "The Safety Dance". Stumbled across this album in the Music Store and...WOW! Colin Hay is an amazing singer/songwriter capable of rising above the camp of his work in the 80's. At times upbeat (Beautiful World), contemplative (Waiting for My Real Life to Begin, Water Song), reminiscent (Maggie) and baleful (I Don't Know Why), this album shows a more serious side of the artist and is (dare I say?) a near acoustical masterpiece. HIGHLY recommended for your next roadtrip.

Great Intro to a Great Artist

Its great that Apple finally brought a such a talented artist to listeners that probably haven't heard of him. This is a super introduction to a great catalog! Beautiful World and Waiting for My Real Life are gems as is the Garden State Soundtrack standout I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You.

If you liked the Garden State song...

Colin Hay has a gift for combining elegant acoustic tones with poetic lyrics. If you liked the song featured on Garden State then you'll love this album.

Although he and his former band will forever be associated with "the land down under," Hay originally hailed from Scotland, where he was born in the town of Kilwinning on June 29, 1953. Hay relocated to Australia in 1967, by which time he had begun playing guitar and singing. Although the country is probably best known for spawning hard...
