Album Review

While Love Spirals Downwards' sound has evolved from their debut, their first effort still features some of their best tunes. The overall sound of the album is heavenly and reverberant, and there's also a greater degree of layering than subsequent works, with highly processed acoustic and electric guitars coalescing gracefully around Suzanne Perry's angelic vox, Ryan Lum's heavenly keyboards, and occasional hand percussion and rhythm programming. Idylls also includes some beautiful cover artwork. [Projekt's 2007 edition included three bonus tracks and alternate album art.]

Perfection, Remastered

Throughout the past 10 years, Idylls and Ardor by Love Spirals Downwards have remained paramount in my music collection.. I simply cannot put these albums away. Both are equally haunting. This remastered issue adds 3 tracks. Mediterranea (which I had not heard before) is like a gorgeous unknown family member coming home. The live track easily highlights the purity of this band's talent.

Not bad, but…

I used to own this cd and whenever I played it, I thought to myself, "why don't I just listen to Treasure?" (The Cocteau Twins album)
