EDITORS’ NOTES

With music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and book by Jessie Nelson, this Broadway hit brings the comedic drama of everyday life to the musical stage. “Opening Up” is an instant winner to match any of Bareilles’s piano-driven pop favorites. Sung with gusto by Jessie Mueller, “She Used to Be Mine” is a countrified soul ballad that reveals a woman losing touch with herself. The soundtrack boasts great comic timing—just check “Club Knocked Up” or “I Love You Like a Table”—but “Everything Changes” is the centerpiece of a story that thrives on common, from-the-heart truths.

Amazing Show, Beautiful Performances

Wicked-green,

I have to say, the sound on this track available right now is extremely studio. It sounds very produced and not nearly as raw as seeing the show live. Not my favorite cast recording, but the music of this show is so beautiful, funny, and inspiring.

Honestly in love with this already

krg92,

I've been waiting for this album for months now, ever since I saw the out of town run of the show at the ART. Sara's score is brilliant, and can we PLEASE talk about Jessie Mueller?? She's absolutely incredible singing these songs, and I can't imagine anyone else bringing Sara's music to life so poignantly. My only complaint is that, judging from the release of "She Used To Be Mine," the album really does sound a bit overproduced (or Jessie's just one of those performers that sounds better live than on any recording). But overall, I'm super excited for the rest of this album to be released. Great music + great composer + great cast = A+
