EDITORS’ NOTES

Founded by American singer/songwriter Adam Roth and Swedish producers Fredrik Eriksson and Sebastian Fritze, L.A.’s Grizfolk unveil a bold fusion of rootsy alt-rock and European electronic pop on their debut. Twangy guitars ride purring grooves, while synthesizers shimmer like desert stars. Roth’s hypnotic voice is exceptionally adaptable: On the open-road anthems “Bob Marley” and “Waiting for You,” he shouts from the depths of his gut like a young Bruce Springsteen. In contrast, the atmospheric ballad “Bohemian Bird” finds him morphing into a New Romantic drowning in tragic love.

We Have Awoken

Coming in with their first full length album, Grizfolk has achieved a sound similar to that of Bleachers, Smallpools, and Bad Suns, with harmonious keys, heartbeat drums, and strings with attitude. The song Troublemaker is a rebellious hook with western-style guitars, which ultimately lures you into the sound of the intense drums from Hymnals. The Struggle has a perfectly paced rhythm with lucid vocals, complimented by keys that bring you to the top of a plateau of good vibes. With that comes Waiting for You, which will bring you to the "lonely coastline" of sound, and you’ll never want to leave. Finishing it off with vagabonds, a more slow paced, travel themed masterpiece with the power to make you get up and walk to the beat, Grizfolk have rightfully swept listeners off their feet. This out of the navy-blue group has caught many by surprise, and the release of “Waking Up the Giants”, can't come soon enough.

A RECORD OF AWESOME

If this album was a person, I would marry it and make it banana pancakes every morning. I would write it sonnets and make it bubble baths. We would take trips to the mountains and whisper loving things at the heavens. BUY THIS ALBUM.
