EDITORS’ NOTES

From clean-edged guitar romps to expansive cinematic pieces, Mark Knopfler has explored an exceptionally wide swath of creative terrain. Private Investigations brings coherence to his forays into rock, blues, folk and symphonic modes. It detours into Knopfler’s film soundtrack contributions (“Going Home,” “The Long Road”) to help provide a bridge into his ‘90s solo output. A fine survey of Knopfler’s growth as a songwriter.

Not The Best of...

without Down To The Waterline, this could hardly be called "the best of" Dire Straits. There's a lot of the best left off of here. Do yourself a favor, and burn your CDs and make a Playlist, because Apple doesn't have Dire Straits' back catalog. Music is universal. It wasn't meant to be a corporate tug of war.
