Album Review

Rootsy, soulful singer/songwriter Edwin McCain’s first career retrospective collects 15 of the artist’s most notable works, along with a new track, the Don Was-produced “Walk with You.” McCain, who grew up in South Carolina on a steady diet of soul and R&B, hit the pop jackpot in the early 2000s with two of the most requested wedding songs of the decade, “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask for More,” and can croon like a juke joint legend, which makes even his soppiest moments ring true. That said, The Best of Edwin McCain isn’t just an epic collection of make-out jams. His penchant for upbeat, day-driving slices of small town Americana are evident as well, resulting in a solid collection of AOR rock and soul that will help you get the girl, the truck, and the house back without even breaking a sweat.

Why isn't all 16 tracks available? I was excited to see that "Sign on the door" is NOT on the album available in stores for purchase, so that's the only plus to this "album" on iTunes. I can't see buying this at $3.49 for one song; I have the other 2 already. You messed up this one iTunes. Edwin gets ***** (5stars) for everything he does; iTunes gets NO Stars for this one!

Edwin McCain is what music should be about these days. Amazing vocals with amazing songwriting and storytelling. He has so much talent and is very soul-full. His music can make you tap your feet, sing along, and cry. Each song is it's own journey through a story.

You WONT regret buying ANYTHING from Edwin.

The Jud Johnson Band just played a show with Edwin in Houston and it was sick! Edwin and his band were 100% on point and deep in the pocket. Edwin's vocals have that soulful feel that just draws the listener in and makes them stay a while. He should look into recording all his records live in my opinion. But everyone should by his music regardless.
