Album Review

One of the more current artists to have a 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection, Tracy Byrd's volume in the best-of series compares favorably to his other career retrospective, Keepers. Indeed, the collections have very similar tracklistings, which is to be expected considering he's only been recording for eight years. Highlights include "Watermelon Crawl," "Heaven in My Woman's Eyes," and "Keeper of the Stars." While Keepers might still be the preferable Tracy Byrd best-of, The Millennium Collection does a better-than-average job of collecting his definitive tracks.

A Very Good Summary of the best of Tracy's 1990s Music

This 20th Century Masters CD is virtually identical to Tracy's Keepers: Greatest Hits CD. The CDs contain the same songs, for the most part. The only difference is that this CD has "The First Step" and "Walking to Jerusalem" while Keepers does not, and Keepers has "Heaven in my Woman's Eye," "Someone to Give My Love To" and 'When Mama Ain't Happy" and this CD does not. I would recommend Keepers over this because "Heaven in My Woman's Eye" is one of Tracy's best songs. However, either CD is very good. Tracy has is a great singer, and a Greatest Hits cd is the best way to get into his material since most of his regular CDs have a good bit of throwaway filler type songs. I highly recommend this or Keepers to any fan of 1990s country music.

Tracy Byrd's brand of new traditionalist country made him a star in the '90s, particularly his playful, good-time party singalongs (though he also turned in the occasional ballad success). Byrd was born in the small rural town of Vidor, Texas, in 1966 and grew up listening to his family's extensive country record collection. When Byrd was 20 years old, he visited a novelty recording studio in a shopping mall and sang over a karaoke-style backing track of "Your Cheatin' Heart." Impressed, the saleswoman...
