Better than I expected
Obviously, Williams is a genius and the world of cinema would be at a huge loss without his extraordinary talent. However, I'm not usually as drawn to his work as other composers like James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, and a few lesser known composers like Kerry Muzzy and Josh Kramer but I quite like this latest score of his. Regarding the Oscars, I think there are some other contenders that I would rather see win, but all in all, this is a solid score.
A Return to form!
This is arguably the best score of 2011! Multiple themes, gorgeous orchestrations, and a stellar final track that brings together the best of the best.
Its Been A Long Wait
2008 brought us an extremely lacking score for the fourth Indiana Jones (just like everything from that movie). 2005 was the last time we had anything great from this brilliant composer (Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich). Six years is too long a time for Maestro Williams to finally give us some great music. I had a feeling that Williams has passed his prime and that there is nothing else he could give us. Before I listened ton his two scores for this year, he grew lower and lower on my list of favorite composer, but now he has now proved himself again. We are all blessed to have some of his greatest musical themes in this film. This will become one of his classics, I think, along with others like Jaws, Schindler's List, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Harry Potter, and many others. This is worthy over all otehrs for a Golden Globe, Academy Award, World Soundtrack Award, BAFTA, and Grammy Award. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant music. You will hum these two main themes over and over again. Thank you so much, Maestro Williams. You are truly one of a kind.
