Editors’ Notes

The beautiful haze that hangs over everything the Raveonettes do is again thick and mood enhancing. There’s a palpable sense of haunted enlightenment throughout the tracks. “Recharge & Revolt” is a chilling opener that’s part Jesus & Mary Chain, part-Cure and part-pure Raveonette. “War In Heaven” channels a somber groove, while “Forget That You’re Young” sounds like a beach tune where the sun blurs into the ocean waves. “Apparitions” adds a sinister creep. “Summer Moon” turns in a sweet ballad that’s as delicate as anything the duo has recorded. The harmonies twist together in decadent harmony. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo lean towards Gothic but retain a love for simple rock n’ roll as “My Time’s Up” plays like a ‘50s ballad with tons of echoed shimmer for dramatic effect. Their music is like listening to old-time radio with your head buried in a funnel. It’s trippy and freaky, yet familiar and oddly soothing.

Too good to be believed

In 64 years on this planet, I've never heard a better album. I do not write this lightly. Each song, and the entire work, are a perfect balance of trademark jangly guitar, chamber-type music, percussion and perfectly harmonized vocals. In other words, all the things we love about the Raveonettes . . . and more. This album is ethereal. It is evolution, not drastic and dramatic change. A band I already considered nearly perfect has raised its imposing standards. How will Sune and Sharin better "Raven in the Grave?" How can they? This is truly too good to be believed.

Ravonettes Refined!!!

As with all good bands, there music naturally progresses and becomes more refined. The Ravonettes are no exception to this as they are a great band and have once again produced a stunning lp unlike their previous work. The sound here is a good combo of mid 80's Cure, DM etc. combined with that classic JAMC sound they are know for. Vocals are a bit more clean and crisp as well. Overall a stunning lp worth full download and vinyl purchase.

Thank You Ravonettes!!!!

Great album

This album has a little bit of everything that encompasses the Rave's, so I'll disagree with those who say it's 'way different than anything they've released'. Dark, dreamy, melodic and touching. My favorite since Chain Gang and Pretty in Black. While I like all aspects of their style, I was especially pleased to find a return to some of that sultry 60's sound in Ignite, My Time's Up and a couple others. See them live!

Formed: 1998 in Copenhagen, Denmark

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Combining the noisy swells of the Jesus and Mary Chain with melodic elements of '50s rock & roll, the Raveonettes formed in Copenhagen during 2001. Guitarist Sune Rose Wagner had tried assembling a band for several years, traveling between New York City, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and an island outside of Seattle in his search for like-minded musicians. A longtime fan of Bob Dylan, he also prized the songwriting of Buddy Holly, the harmonies of the Everly Brothers, and the guitar work of Mark Knopfler,...
