iTunes Review

Born and raised in New Orleans, Dawn Richard was originally known as Dawn Angelique; she recorded the solo album Been a While in the mid-'00s. A star on MTV's Making the Band 3, she was a key member of Diddy's made-for-TV groups Danity Kane and Dirty Money. She also collaborated with Lil Wayne and Flo Rida and released the mixtape The Prelude to a Telltale Heart. Her well-received solo EP Armor On dropped in early 2012, featuring singles like "Bombs" and "Automatic." Goldenheart is said to be the first in a trilogy of new albums, and it flaunts both her flair for melodrama and an appreciation of '80s-style keyboards. Produced and cowritten by Druski, it's loaded with dreamy synth washes, freaky effects, plenty of electro flourishes, and an interesting mix of spacy Björk-style vocals and standard-issue pop-minded modern R&B. Standouts include "Gleaux," "Northern Lights," "86," and the Peter Gabriel revamp "In Your Eyes."

An Epic Journey through a Fantastical World of Ecstasy

When I first buy an album, I like to listen to it from the beginning till the end in one sitting. I like to do this while I'm painting, drawing, or driving to work (I have about an hour/ hour and a half drive to work everyday) and today I decided to listen to Dawn Richard's new album "Goldenheart". Little did I know, my typically boring, monotonous drive would be transformed into an epic journey through another dimension: Goldenheart.

Beginning with the Intro, I was inadvertently caressed into another realm. My mind shifted from my humdrum life to a world of magic, wonder and pure ecstasy (No I was and am not high. I don't do drugs. Drugs are bad, mmmkay?). Dawn Richard slides her way into my brain, through my ears, and coddles my nucleus accumbens (the pleasure center in our brains) sending my dopamine and serotonin levels through the roof. She tells a story of an epic journey through a world comparable to likes of Pandora (Avatar) and Westeros (Game of Thrones) using the melody of her vocals, rhythms, and beats. "Goldenheart" is like a sorceress's incantation, transporting the listener to a mysterious, exciting, and eventful world much better than our own. To a world I plan on visiting for years to come.

My use of metaphors and hyperboles might seem a bit excessive, but they are sincere; from the very bottom of my heart and soul. I have no other way of expressing how I feel when I am listening to this magical work of art that is "Goldenheart". Goldenheart is music. It is art. It is the epitome; the pinnacle of what an artist strives to achieve. Dawn Richard is a knight on an epic journey, battling her way to the top. All the way, casting spells and fighting demons, dragons, goblins, and wizards in order to save the Prince that is Inspiration; that is Art; that is Love.

I was taken to another world today and am forever grateful to Dawn for creating such an experience. She conjured up a spell that created an impenetrable force field around her and her work. Because after "Goldenheart" no matter what any critic says, or how many copies it sells; no matter how many stars its given, or how many awards it receives; she can not be touched. Because she has reached the top, she has succeeded in doing what very few artists have ever been able to do; she inspired me.

With lots of love "4RM",
Chip Whitehouse ;-)

Dawn Is Truly A Gift...

I have been a fan of Dawn since I watched her sing Dangerously In Love in front of Diddy & I immediately identified with her. She looked different, sounded different, acted different. I've been a misfit most of my life so to have watched & continue to watch this seed blossom into a rose is one of the most rewarding experiences for me, as a supporter. Her music, her struggles & pain, faith, redemption is me, and all hearts alike. It's easy to be a fan of someone who blew up suddenly... but this woman's first steps were taped for the world to see & her growth is astounding!!! I can't WAIT to buy my 3 copies of this album. I'll probably cry bc I've believed in her since day 1 & her time is finally here!!! Don't know if she'll read this but Dawn, you know I'm beyond proud of you & I'll be rocking with you until the train stops rolling! #HeartsHeaux! <3
