iTunes Review

With a voice that's drawn comparisons to Karen Carpenter for its silky soulfulness, British singer/songwriter Rumer (born Sarah Joyce) has earned the support of Elton John and Burt Bacharach, whose "Alfie" is on the deluxe version of this fine album. Bacharach is an appropriate touchstone; songs like the sweeping "Slow" and the dreamlike "Come to Me High" are very much in his mold. Electric and acoustic pianos, brass arrangements, gently restrained drums, and Rumer's velvet voice brings back the days of Carole King, Laura Nyro, and "Rainy Days and Mondays" with such perfect autobiographical timepieces such as "Am I Forgiven?," "Aretha," and "Take Me as I Am." The inclusion of David Gates' "Goodbye Girl" is further indication that she's out to bring back the romance of early-'70s AM radio. The album, which was released in the U.K. in 2010, has received positive notices and awards there. The deluxe version includes covers of Paul Simon's "Long Long Day," The Beach Boys' "The Warmth of the Sun," and the aforementioned Bacharach track, "Alfie."

A Rumer I don't mind spreading!

I saw the story about Rumer on the CBS Sunday Morning show. She has a great voice and fact that she’s been struggling play clubs and pubs in England for the past 10 years makes me respect her even more. It’s a must download. I also recommend checking out “It’s Valentine’s Day” by Tyler Barham. Another awesome song!

An Authentic Voice

This girls got chops, and she has taste to boot. A great debut album by a British voice that sounds like it came from the past. It's about time we got to hear authentic singers like Rumer and Adele that are not cranked out of the American Idol machine. Rumer is the real thing. With material from the likes of Paul Simon, Brian Wilson, and Burt Bacharach, she is the first sign of spring this year.

AMAZING talent

So glad I took the time to randomly preview this album. Now a days, it's really rare when you come across a singer with actual real talent. I LOVE
"Slow". Download the album, you won't regret it.

Heavily influenced by Burt Bacharach and blessed with effortless, velvety smooth vocals, Anglo-Pakistani singer/songwriter Rumer harks back to the early-'70s easy listening sounds of Karen Carpenter and Carole King. Born in 1979 to British parents living in Islamabad, Rumer (real name Sarah Joyce) was the youngest of seven children, and spent her early years living in an expat community. Encouraged to make their own entertainment, she began writing songs with her brothers and sisters, and after moving...
