The Dead Daisies

The Dead Daisies

The big news hook here is that Slash (yes, that Slash) cowrote "Lock 'N' Load" and is "featured" on the track. But the hard rock veterans in The Dead Daisies can stand on their own. The lineup features guys who've played in Guns 'N' Roses (Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed), Thin Lizzy (Fortus, Marco Mendoza), Whitesnake, INXS, Nine Inch Nails, and The Angels. The music that comes crashing through this self-titled album should connect with anyone who likes their rock 'n' roll with the guitars turned way up and was weaned on the sounds of the '70s and '80s, when bands like this sold out arenas. "Yesterday" is an acoustic-based ballad-rocker that throws Southern rock into the mix. Interesting—considering the band's nexus comes not just from the American South but the Southern hemisphere. Whether from Australia, America, or elsewhere, these guys know what made bands with intimidating amounts of Marshall stacks really tick. While nothing here will strike you as innovative, The Dead Daisies fulfill a certain need that the rhythms of "Yeah Yeah Yeah," "Man Overboard," and "Talk to Me" are sure to shake loose.
