iTunes Review

Although this is the first release by Laura Pergolizzi (a.k.a. L.P.)—and it’s only an EP—the artist has made quite a mark already. She’s written songs for Rihanna, Heidi Montag, The Backstreet Boys, and Christina Aguilera. She’s had a song (the title track) featured prominently in a commercial for a major bank and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. These six songs are strong showcases for L.P.’s booming, dynamic voice. Two-thirds of the way through “Levitator,” she positively howls along with the soaring guitar leads, overtaking them. Her voice is so strong it almost overpowers more subdued songs like “Someday” and “Tokyo Sunrise,” but such mild histrionics appear to be her only vice. Besides, who can blame the artist for wanting to show off a little bit? Now that we know she can sing like a banshee and craft a good pop song, one hopes that an actual LP from L.P. is shortly forthcoming, so we can see how she stretches out into more of a long-form work.

Somebody Left the Gate Open!!

If you know LP, you probably know the commercial with 'Into the Wild' played in it. Truth is, that commerical annoyed me. It didn't make sense that images of rock climbing be overlayed with someone upset that the gate was left open. Something about it, though, ate away at me for a good long time. Finally - I looked up the song. It started so easily, so intreaguing with the lyrics, pulling me closer to the speakers. Then it happened .. the count off, the cymbal ride, and Pow!
I don't think I can think of someone who sings with such energy & control. Her voice bursts on the edge of losing all control with huge unmistakable energy, but its without break and without loss. It is that feeling I get out there in the wild, when the beauty of it all overwhelms me and it takes all that I have to stay in control.
If it was just this song, this EP was worth the purchase -- but the more I listened the more I loved this EP. Tokyo Sunrise is an audio treat. Wasted Love has a great groove to it. But Levatator has become easily one my favorite songs to get my blood going.
I'm glad I got annoyed by a commerical, and more directly, I am glad this somebody left his mind open.

Lovin her!

There is no one else like LP. Her voice is so powerful yet so sweet. With evey new song I listen to, the more I want.
She is my new music love.

Just cannot stop listening. Powerful stuff here. every song is a keeper. Best purchase I have made on a whim in a long time. Thanks LP, your voice and songs really get me jazzed up.

She spent her formative years honing her craft in other bands before releasing her 2001 solo album, Heart-Shaped Scar (produced by David Lowery [Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker]), and relocating to California. She began to hit her stride in 2004 with her second outing, Suburban...
