Editors’ Notes

On his 11th album, ex–Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin exercises his Ronnie Wood fixations and Stones-y swaggers with love and composure. “Old Tune,” “Difference,” “Beat Up,” and “Texas” have the hip-swinging grooves and guttural vocal melodies down, while “Rollin’ Rollin’” sounds like Neil Young wrestling with Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Way It Goes” and the proletariat blues of “Job” could’ve been Don’t Tell a Soul–era Replacements. Stradlin long ago mastered the rock ’n’ roll art of being cheeky without being cheesy, and here it’s turned up a notch. There are 10 songs here, with not an unconvincing one among them.

Izzy's Still Got It

Coming quickly after last year's excellent "Smoke" is Izzy's latest "Wave of Heat". I've loved Izzy since I became a huge GN'R fan back in the summer 0f `88, and I have been following his solo career from the day he released his 1st solo set, the excellent Izzy Stradlin and the Juju Hounds (Oct. 1992). This new set from Izzy doesn't break any new ground, he has forsaken the foray's into reggae, surf rock and post-punk that can be found on earlier albums of his. It's straight ahead rock n roll for Izzy and that's what this new album is, straight up, no frills rock n roll. I doubt any new fans will be won over by the new set, but if you are a fan of rock n roll and are interested in what he's doing, do yourself a favor and pick this album up (exclusively here at iTunes). He gives us 10 tracks that rock hard and show why he was the "beating heart of Gun N' Roses". As well as being one of the last great rhythm guitar players, he is also an excellent song writer and there isn't a bum track to be found here. The twin guitar attack is in full force and it lends well to these rockers. Not much more to say than Izzy: keep up the good work! The only thing I wish was that there was more in terms of information, as in who plays what, who produced/recorded/mixed, where it was recorded, and song writing credits.

Everything Sounds The Same

I was a Huge Izzy fan when he was in GnR and Ju Ju Hounds. I had such high hopes for him after the first JuJU Hounds album. That was a great rock album. However, lately everything he puts out sounds the same, not just albums, but songs. I keep waiting to hear a new song that grabs me, like 14 years, but nothing for sometime now. If you like the way his last 4 albums sounded than you will like this. Nothing new, and in my opinion, very boring and uninspired. But I won't give up hope, this guy has a great voice for rock, and he has shown he can write incredible songs.

If it aint Broke....

After hearing the new Tunes from Izzy, it was what i expected, more of the same great rock n roll we are used to with Izzy. Rick Richards plays extremely well on this record, i hear a few Ju Ju Hounds lics in there, a nice touch. I thought the production was top notch, sounds really good, and especially for being recorded at izzy's house, or i would imagine it was. More of the Same, i cant Complain....

Thanks Izzy for your music

Biography

Born: April 8, 1962 in Lafayette, IN

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The gals dug Axl and the musicians dug Slash, but the man in the back, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, was just as much an integral part of Guns N' Roses. Stradlin's exit from the group in 1991 also signaled the beginning of the end for G N' R, as they became more of the "Axl Rose Show" and less of a full-fledged band. Born in Lafayette, Indiana on April 8, 1962, Stradlin (whose real name is Jeff Isbell) developed a deep appreciation of the Rolling Stones and particularly Keith Richards. It wasn't long...
