Customer Reviews

Be honest with yourself, people

This album is terrible. And I'm a fan. Can't believe there are folks actually giving this live album five stars.

The rust has never slept

There are two types of reviews of this album; those who don't like it because it isn't "classic Neil Young" with "Heart of Gold" and "Hey Hey, My My (Out Of The Blue) and those who love it because it is Neil being Neil (that is, doing whatever he likes). The rust has never slept here: after a near decade long hiatus from his backing band, Crazy Horse proves that they still have the sound that was established on Ragged Glory and Sleeps With Angels. Neil also has proven that sound is the most important: the stereo channels are set up well and the fogginess of "Old Black" does not distort the album. Try to get past the fact that Neil is covering "old" folk songs and the album will not disappoint.

Best Neil Album in Years

To those who gave this album 1 star but say they are Neil Young fans, give it several listens. At first it might sound to you like a spoof by a Neil Young impersonator. However after a few times through you really get the sense that this is the band that did Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Crazy Horse really brings out Neil's rocking side. His take on these old american standards is an essential addition to Neil's portfolio. I think this album is excellent!
