iTunes Editors’ Notes

Lenz is a group poised on the brink of blinding spotlights and adoration. Imagine, if you can—without exploding from the joy of it all—that Roxy Music, Felt, Simple Minds, and oh, let's say Ultravox all got together and had a baby band in Oakland, Calif., circa 2011. Lenz is that progeny, destined for greatness: booming tom drums, glimmering keyboards, glammy-punk guitars, and John Hughes soundtrack–worthy melancholy are fused into a luscious, rich, and catchy sound with a big, big heart. Vocalist Andy Jordan can melt the hardest of hearts with his sharp swoon; the musical maestro of '60s psych-rock revivalists The Cuts and retro punk/new wavers Andy Human is now showing some fresh colors. After joining here with Ray Seraphin (also of Andy Human and a slew of other Bay Area bands), the prolific and incredibly talented artist has hit the target dead on. The sweet, moody pop of "Moody Michelle" opens up with thudding drums and a twinkling, beguiling keyboard line that sticks like honey. The howling "(Leaving) The 21st Century" has a gritty punk underbelly, with a racing melody and dramatic arcs that recall seminal Aussie punks The Saints.
