iTunes Editors’ Notes

This album is Mastered for iTunes. “Hardly a hero”, Elton “Captain Fantastic” John introduces himself in the title track, “just someone his mother might know”. In this concept album’s narrative, the star’s self-mocking uber-hero persona was quickly discarded (the Brown Dirt Cowboy was lyricist/Western fetishist Bernie Taupin); the overall theme is the team’s struggling early days. This set—the first rock LP to debut at Number One in Billboard—reflected the omnivorous stylistic leaps that accompanied Elton’s rise. Epic ballads (“Someone Saved My Life Tonight”, “Curtains”) sat next to smirking hard rock (“(Gotta Get a) Meal Ticket”) and Philly soul (“Tell Me When the Whistle Blows”). It was his melodic gift, not to mention the band’s tightness, that held it all together. This remastered edition features as bonuses two Number One singles (“Philadelphia Freedom” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, along with the latter’s John Lennon-penned B-side, “One Day at a Time”) from the period immediately before the album’s original 1975 release.

Arguably His Best

This was the first album by anyone to ENTER the Billboard top !00 at #1. Semi-autobographical story By Bernie Taupin and Elton's early struggles in the music industry, so each song is placed in chronological order... a kind of timeline (songs 1-10 originally). Elton's voice is at it's peak here. ALL the songs on here are great, and all are very different. This album shows Bernie's lyrical genius and Elton's uncanny knack for putting his words to the right music.
Sit back, close your eyes, and enjoy the journey...

A masterpiece

Reminiscing of days gone by with this Elton John classic, remastered for ITunes. I remember so clearly getting this LP as an awkward teen and playing it loudly in the room I shared with my brother. Before the highly manufactured sounds of Carly Rae Jepson and Selena Gomez, this classic sounds as fresh and creative today as that day the needle first sat down on the LP more than 38 years ago....

Some One Saved My Life Tonight

Clearly the best most unstoppable album Elton has ever put out!!!!!!!
