Capitol's 2008 Ultimate Collection isn't the first double-disc compilation of Pat Benatar's prime — 14 years prior to this set, EMI/Chrysalis released All Fired Up: The Very Best of Pat Benatar, a double-disc compilation that is seven tracks shorter than the 40-track 2008 release yet covers the same ground. So, Ultimate Collection is more generous, which makes it useful for fans looking to explore Benatar's peak in detail, yet the simple fact remains that for most listeners a good single-disc collection (like the standard-bearer Best Shots) is the best bet because Benatar's second-tier material simply isn't as compelling as the big hits.
