iTunes Review

Scots rockers The Fratellis return after a five-year hiatus with We Need Medicine, a comeback album that’s careful to return energy levels to that of their 2006 debut album, Costello Music. Less nervous and jittery, songs like “Halloween Blues” and “This Old Ghost Town” pound the strike zone with meaty hooks and ambitious playing. Keith Richards appears to have made his influence known on such Stones-like tunes as “She’s Not Gone Yet but She’s Leaving” and “Shotgun Shoes.” Those moves turn into a focused version of The Strokes on the jumpy-but-contained “Whisky Saga.” A bar band emerges on “This Is Not the End of the World,” while The Fratellis move closer to new wave roots-rock on “Jeannie Nitro.” The title track offers up a gospel-revival choir of voices before the band members go inside the bar to get their instruments. That vibe continues on “Until She Saves My Soul,” the apparent answer song to the earnest “Rock N Roll Will Break Your Heart.”

Favorite Band

I've never been more excited for an album to be released.

The Fratellis are BACK!

I LOVE this album. This band is showing a classic evolution from all the catchy tunes (Costello Music) to amazing riffs (Here We Stand) to a much more contemplative sound that encompasses their entire music history. If you're disappointed, you aren't listening to the music. My favorites so far are "Seven Days, Seven Nights" (which also has an amazing video) and "Rock n Roll Will Break Your Heart." Congrats on the album, lads! Can't wait to see you play the States!!!!!

Great album, but where'd it go?

The songs on the album disappeared before I could buy more of them! Why are only two of them there?

Formed: 2005 in Glasgow, Scotland

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A brashly melodic indie rock outfit from Glasgow, the Fratellis feature vocalist/guitarist Jon Fratelli, drummer Mince Fratelli, and bassist Barry Fratelli. The witty trio played its first show in early 2005, maintaining that the band's moniker was merely an homage to Barry's original surname (however, other rumors suggest that the Fratellis borrowed it from the nemesis family featured in Steven Spielberg's film The Goonies). Such trivia only added to the Fratellis' growing appeal upon their performance...
