iTunes Review

This British indie pop duo have taken the best elements of contemporary, alternative pop (simplicity, stylish cool, and danceable beats) and shaken and stirred them with the edgy feel of late ‘70’s New York and British post-punk. Jules De Martino plays drums and guitar, and the irrepressible Katie White sings and occasionally bangs on a bass drum or cowbell and plays guitar. Their first single features “Great DJ,” all cool and sassy in a New Young Ponies kind of way, with big dance beats, hiccupy vocals, and shimmering tambourines, while flipside “That’s Not My Name” is even more cheeky and has a kind of M.I.A. flair. “Shut Up and Let Me Go” — used in an iPod commercial and landing the band on the U.S. Billboard charts — features a late ‘70’s, Blondie guitar sound with White’s vocals sounding like a schoolgirl chanting her way through a recess rhyme; tres old school!  White tries her hand at a retro, soulful falsetto ala Beck on title track, and with its stripped down, repetitive, and catchy guitar/drums and chorus, it’s another standout. “Impacilla Carpisung” is nonsensical and fun, a bit of electro-spice in the honey, and “Be The One” has White softening her vocals to sing in a more mainstream pop style. File under “M” for Major Fun!

Too Fun!

Ok, so I'm 46 years old and I love The Ting Tings. Go figure. Anyone my age living around NYC in the late 70's and early 80's might see and hear similarities between this band and the great sights and sounds of early new wave (I mean, look at the album cover). A bit of Debbie Harry? Hmmm, maybe. Hit play, turn it up, and go out and have some fun for a change!!

Cute and refreshing!

I heard their song "Shut Up and Let Me Go" on the radio for the new ipod commercial and instantly fell in love with it. I'd find myself singing it out loud all the time to the point where my friends would be like, "What is that?" And then, before they'd even hear it themselves, they'd be humming it along with me. This stuff is cute and catchy and just what you need to get yo GROOVE on!

They Call Me "Quiet Girl", But I'm a Riot

"That's Not My Name" is probably one of the most fun songs I've heard in a very long time. Obsessed

Named after a Chinese friend whose name sounds like the Mandarin pronunciation of "bandstand," the Ting Tings — a scrappy, dance-oriented duo consisting of singer/guitarist Katie White and drummer Jules De Martino — formed in the Salford district of Manchester, England in 2006. Prior to forming the group, the pair worked together in 2001 when White was in the all-female punk-pop group TKO and De Martino wrote some songs for them. Later, the pair reunited and with another friend formed...
