Album Review

Although it is a little predictable, the Cambridge Singers & Orchestra' Christmas Star is an entertaining collection of familiar holiday tunes and carols, all professionally performed by the Cambridge Singers. This is good, straight a cappella holiday music and should satisfy fans of that style, even if it isn't an exceptional record.

A Christmas Favorite

Christmas Star is my absolute favorite Christmas CD. It has such classics as "Angels We Have Heard On High", "Joy to the World", and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" intermingled with lesser known pieces as "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime", and "All My Heart This Night Rejoices", and everything in between. The choir is very clear and lovely, and the soprano section has a crystal quality. The orchestra that goes along with the choir is very well balanced most of the time, giving each piece enough background music without overwhelming the choir. All in all, a wonderful Christmas album I would recommend to anyone.
And to whoever wrote the description for the album on itunes, this album IS NOT a cappella. That would imply that there was no instrument or orchestra, only singers. There is an orchestra on this CD. Therefore, Christmas Star IS NOT a cappella. -_-
