Customer Reviews

One of the best from one of the best.

I first came across this album upon the recommendation of a drum teacher who, rightfully so, recommended listening to Roy Haynes for inspiration and direction. It has become a staple in my listening repertoire. Paul Chambers’ playing is sublime as always and shows how masterful he was for all his inner demons. More importantly, it showcases the magical piano playing of Phineas Newborn, a to often overlooked hard bop great. In particular, check out the second cut ‘Sugar Ray,’ a complete showcase for the entire trio.
