Customer Reviews

I cannot say enough about this album. It's powerful, brilliant, and inspiring.

The first movement is so bare in arrangement that you can feel all the emotion in each chord of the piano and every lyric that Nedelka Prescod sings so beautifully.

The second movement has such warmth with the sound of the horns. The tension build-up is so effective that when the horns hit the last chord, you can't help but let out a breath of relief.

The third movement is the climax of this album. It starts with a repetition of the theme that made me smile when I heard it. When the men's backing vocals come in singing the words to the first movement, I get chills. It ends so peacefully and quietly.

Awaking you from the serenity of the third movement is the horns in the fourth movement. This is what Triumph sounds like. The use of We Shall Overcome in response to the We Will Know theme is so strong and powerful.

This is a brilliant album musically, emotionally, and politically. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

A Milestone

Omar Thomas has crafted a timeless work in message and scope. Soulful doesn't begin to describe it. A melody you feel like you've known for years, stretching from the hearts of those who came before us to the equality we all shall know, written at a point in time where justice seems so close and yet so far. There is solace here, and hope. And work left to be done.

Great Music

Omar Thomas' voice is one of the most original and musically satisfying in modern jazz. This album is required listening for everyone wishing to stay current on the state of contemporary big band writing. Most importantly, it is just really satisfying to listen to. An inspiring release in every way.
