iTunes Review

Modern Baseball’s smart, bittersweet pop-punk is one of the more winning sounds of its kind. As catchy and sharply observed as 2014’s You’re Gonna Miss It All, Holy Ghost is a deceptively breezy—and highly quotable—album, packing clear-eyed and heavy-hearted ruminations into songs that often feel like they’re over as soon as they start. “Here I am, Valero bathroom / Who’s paid to keep these things cliche?” goes a line on the lovelorn highlight “Mass.” “Bury me beneath New York state / It’s the only place where I feel dead.”
