iTunes Review

Her first English-language album in nearly a decade finds Gloria Estefan produced by The Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams. Yet even through his updated beats and studio gloss, Estefan sounds like the same Latin pop diva with just a touch more maturity on her vocal cords. The title track opens as Estefan weaves a narrative about a teen model from Havana teetering at the edge of the profession’s slippery slope. “Wepa” comes closest to approximating the chemistry of Miami Sound Machine with what sounds like an epic summertime party erupting in the streets: pounding parade drums, blaring horn sections, hyper conga rhythms, and a chanting chorus all play under Estefan like she’s leading a parade down South Beach. Both Williams and Estefan make disco sound totally relevant in the pulsing “Make Me Say Yes,” where Williams proves that the Auto-Tune effect can in fact be used sparingly and tastefully.

You've got to be kidding me!!

This has to be her worst album ever!! The melody is horrible. It's a smash up of too many different Latin rhythms, defiantly headache material. I mean what happen to carefully crafted music, or better yet instruments that have individual harmony amongst them and the voice? Every song is noisy and lousy. When my friend made me hear the preview of the album I was like "this has to be a joke!" I was hoping it would be but obviously not. Thumbs way down. I only gave it one star because I like the cover. Again horrible. Want a migraine listen to this album.

Born Gloria Fajardo in Havana on September 1, 1957, she was raised primarily in Miami, Florida, after her father, a bodyguard in the employ of Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, was forced to flee the island following...
