WE'VE DONE SOMETHING WONDERFUL by Epik High on Apple Music

EDITORS’ NOTES

The title sounds celebratory, but getting there wasn't an easy journey for Epik High. On WE'VE DONE SOMETHING WONDERFUL, the veteran hip-hop trio tackles sacrificing for your dreams ("LOST ONE"), uncomfortableness with success ("BLEED"), and personal anguish ("HERE COME THE REGRETS"). Both melancholy and gorgeous, the LP features a multifaceted K-pop cast to tell stories that are vulnerable (LEE SUHYUN's tender soprano shines on "THE BENEFITS OF THE HEARTBREAK," while CRUSH croons through the hopeful-yet-heartbreaking "MUNBAE-DONG") and cocksure ("NO THANXXX" features confident, explicit verses from multiple generations of Korean rappers).

About Epik High

A two MCs and one DJ South Korean hip-hop group, Epik High went largely unnoticed up the release of their debut album, Mapping the Human Soul, in 2003. But hit singles from their next two full-lengths would prove to be just what the group needed, and 2004's High Society and 2005's Swan Songs (featuring the track "Fly," which was used on the video game FIFA07) were big enough hits to make the members of Epik High household names in Korea. Members Tablo (Lee Sun-Woong, born July 22, 1980, aka Daniel Armand Lee), Mithra (aka Mitra Jin, born Choi Jin January 6, 1983) and DJ Tukutz (aka Street T, born Kim Jeong-Shik on November 19, 1981) released their fourth album, Remapping the Human Soul, in 2007. Its subject matter brought the band controversy, but that only helped sales, and the album scored the top slot in the charts. ~ Chris True
