Album Review

Shania Twain's eponymous debut album is a set of contemporary country that demonstrates her considerable vocal abilities. Each song leans toward soft rock instead of country or country-rock and each relies on Twain's vocal skills. It's a promising debut, largely because it showcases her fine vocals, and is interesting within a historical context.

Pretty good

This is good, old-fashioned country music. Personally, I prefer Shania's newer, more contemperary country songs, but that's just me. It might not be her best, but this music is still very enjoyable to listen to.

You gotta be kidding me!!

Although this CD isn't as poppy as her others, this is a great CD! Maybe it lacks the unique writing style we've all come to love in Shania, but these songs are great, and Shania still sings them with sincerity and passion in her voice. This is Shania before the glitz and glam of superstardom, and I think it's fantastic!!!

Not My Favorite...

I love Shania Twain. I think she's amazingly talented, that's why I bought this CD. But I was very disappointed. The only songs I might listen to occasionally are "What Made You Say That" and "You Lay A Whole Lot of Love On Me". The rest are boring and nothing like the Shania we know and love. This is a little too country for me, and a little corny. Sorry Shania.

Emerging in the mid-'90s, Shania Twain became the most popular country music artist since Garth Brooks. Skillfully fusing mainstream, AOR rock production with country-pop, Twain and her producer/husband, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, created a commercial juggernaut with her second album, The Woman in Me. The record became a multi-platinum phenomenon, peaking at number five on the pop charts and eventually selling over nine million copies in America alone. Twain might have sold a lot of records, but like...
