iTunes Review

The tenor player leads his quartet into a spacious, searching postbop suite. The songs on What We Bring are inspired by elder masters, peers, and future idols. The L.A.-reared Wendel channels his love for indie rock and hip-hop toward performances that set spiraling, lyrical saxophone lines against deep, churning grooves summoned by his skilled bandmates.

That's a SONG SONG

Melody writing is the most underrated skill in jazz today, probably because it’s also the rarest.
I’d guess it’s not coincidence that the title of the incredible song is "Song Song", Holy cow what a Song!
Ben Wendel is one of the most prominent saxophonists in the world and we can see clearly a game changing album that will redefine jazz saxophone for decades to come. A tremendous album, GO GET IT

Best Yet!

A look back and forward in jazz, Ben Wendel's best work yet!

Great stuff to offer

That’s a nice easy feel with some great wristy drumming right up on ‘AMIAN’. Great swing feel on ‘SONG, SONG’ and ‘SPRING’ – what a feeling! The saxophone is in the house and I can really feel it with the bass and drums, piano improvisation. Neat variation on ‘SOLAR’ and that’s a great bass solo too!
