The Boy From Oz
Even though I have never even seen this play this is still music you want to listen to over and over again. You can relate to it and understand the story even if you've never heard of this play before. Hugh Jackman has a wonderful voice and the songs take you in right away. There are great old favorites such as Everything Old is New Again and I Honestly Love You. And the songs Once before I go and I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love are now favorites of mine. Belive me if you purchase this you will not be sorry.
A terrific recording of a fun show...
I was fortunate to see the show twice; I've been going to see shows on Broadway for a long, long time, and Hugh Jackman's performance as Peter Allen is up there in the top 5 performances that I'll always remember. As great as he is on film, it can't begin to capture the dynamic actor/singer this man is. This recording captures his astonishing performance as well as any recording could. Of the other actors, Isabel Keating's Judy Garland was particularly moving (and it almost felt like Judy was actually there). Was it a great show? Well, the producers decided not to continue doing the show without Mr. Jackman (rumor had it they approached Ricky Martin), but the show itself was a very entertaining couple of hours. And with most of the current musicals on Broadway, that's saying quite a lot.
Boy from Oz
Who would have thought that Wolverine could sing and not just sing, but SING! Rarely have I seen a live performance where the actor inhabited the character so completely as Hugh Jackman did with the Aussie's beloved performer, Peter Allen. When Jackman came to the US, none of us knew his background was on the stage and including playing Curley in Oklahoma on the London stage and winning a best actor award for it. Acting chops aside, his clear, perfect tenor voice draws you into the songs in this show, even deveoping a following for many lesser known show songs written by Allen. I had the privilege of taking my daughter (with her own awesome voice) backstage and meeting and talking shop with Jackman. He is a seriously funny man with a great zest for life and gave my daughter great advice about dealing with her own stage fright. He talked about having fun with his craft. That zest and joy shines through every song he sings. I guarantee that if you buy this album, you will not be disappointed. It will become your favorite, just as it is mine. Do it!
