iTunes Review

Fourteen years after the last album to bear its name, Electric Light Orchestra reemerge. Well, sort of. Jeff Lynne—founding and sole remaining member—moves front and center with a self-written, produced, and performed (“except the shaker and the tambourine”) set. Thrillingly, clean ELO DNA courses through its veins. Lynne remains a melodic alchemist at 67; “One Step at a Time” harks back to the glorious ‘70s space jams, “All My Life”’s gorgeous lovelorn chorus earns its mushiness, and the title track crystalizes the album’s fusion of thoughtful introspection and Lynne’s unshakable, mad-scientist ambition.

The classic ELO we all love and expect!!!

For the person with the 1 star review who wrote about times having changed and Jeff Lynne being stuck in the past, you are either not a fan or you are seriously missing the whole point. The best part of Jeff Lynne is that he does NOT care what (mostly crappy) modern music trends try to suggest would be popular or ought to sell a lot of records. Thank goodness for an artist who remains true to the very style that separates him from the mind numbing mediocrity of popular music trends.
Thank you Mr. Lynne for being the artist you are no matter what and when. Cannot wait to hear it all!

This is the first i have ever written a comment or review in iTunes but after reading another comment it made me realize how Music has changed and even saved my life. Another person said how he or she felt that after listening to some of the cuts on this upcoming release that Lynne is stuck in the 80’s. Well I am here to tell you that that is exactly where i wanna be stuck in. It was a time of real music and real artist. Today an artist is a DJ who sits on stage and plays records or digital records or whatever. I feel so lucky to have been party of music culture in the 80s and the 90s because quite frankly …there was a culture. I have been very fortunate to have written many number one songs and I can say that Jeff Lynne has inspired me like no other. His work has given me the ingredients that I needed to make a life and a career . What I have heard so far is consistent with the Genius I have come to know from a musician and songwriter who will never know how his music has affected my life in such a positive way.

Great song but...

I like anything Jeff Lynne records and I like this new song, however I was really hoping for the larger symphonic ELO sound. Jeff writes great music, however "When I was a Boy" sounds similar to the stripped-down production on Armchair Theatre and Zoom. I know Jeff has stayed close to Richard Tandy over the years but I wish he would bury the hatchet with Bev Bevan and Louis Clark over the ELO Part II gig and add some real drums and orchestration. RIP Kelly Groucutt.

The Electric Light Orchestra's ambitious yet irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography rocketed the group to massive commercial success throughout the 1970s. ELO was formed in Birmingham, England in the autumn of 1970 from the ashes of the eccentric art-pop combo the Move, reuniting frontman Roy Wood with guitarist/composer Jeff Lynne, bassist Rick Price, and drummer Bev Bevan. Announcing their intentions to "pick up where 'I Am the Walrus' left off,"...
