Customer Reviews

retro-fitted for 2007

The previous reviewer nailed the synthesis for this album. We could call this record "Sgt. Smile", though it falls short of the genius of both of its parts. With that said this is a must have for listeners who are celebrating the "year of the deer". Buy it and then purchase the Besnard Lakes!

Another triumph for Figurines

This album takes the Figurines' sound in a very different, more minimalist/psychedelic direction. The drums are very quiet, and more emphasis is placed on keyboards and vocal harmony. That said, the songs are not overproduced and are still tightly constructed and eminently singable. The album definitely has an overarching esthetic that wasn't necessarily present on previous discs. This is a must for any Figurines fan or lovers of bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre. It is clear that the record is a departure, but at the same time an absolute success and sign of musical growth. That is, another triumph.

It has a little Brian Wilson and a little Sgt. Pepper to it. No other band has the ability to stick an odd little melody in your head. So worth the $9.99.
