Customer Reviews

Arctic Monkeys and how they rock.

Arctic Monkeys rock but the review in which they are compared to DMB and Coldplay is way out there. I have their UK album and it falls in line more with bands like Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party ect. They rarely "take it down a notch" like you see with bands like Coldplay. Most of the Arctic Monkeys stuff is driven by a forceful guitar and catchy lyrics. There is no "Fix You" on this album.

Whatever you think they are, Arctic Monkeys are not Coldplay

I think Arctic Monkeys are closer to the Jam, Clash, & Nirvana than any of the other bands mentioned. I don't get the Coldplay comparison at all (except they're both English). The AM's are only like 19 or 20 years old and write amazing songs with amazing lyrics and RAWK hard. Coldplay is college music.

Don't listen

"Don't believe the hype". Thats what the band told everyone. Well ignore them. The Arctic Monkeys really are something. They proved themselves to many including already established bands, who everyone respects. In my opionon they make great music for being so young. There not going to be like Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, or the Kaiser Chiefs. They're still learning. Their average age is like 20. They capture what lifes like for a young kid going out for a night on the town. They not only have great lyrics, especially getting in a fight with your girl or maybe noticing the posers that hang around, but they have a great tune to carry those lyrics. It's a little faster than what I was use too. But they grew on me. It's already unanimous in the U.K. People love them. Just listen for yourself. If you don't like them, well thats ok.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

By distilling the sounds of Franz Ferdinand, the Clash, the Strokes, and the Libertines into a hybrid of swaggering indie rock and danceable neo-punk, Arctic Monkeys became one of the U.K.'s biggest bands of the new millennium. Their meteoric rise began in 2005, when the teenagers fielded offers from major labels and drew a sold-out crowd to the London Astoria, using little more than a self-released EP as bait. Several months later, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What...
