"When We Are Death" by Hexvessel on iTunes

10 Songs

EDITORS’ NOTES

A self-described “psychedelic forest folk” sextet who manage to conjure the feel of goth metal without heavy guitars, Finland’s Hexvessel are beautifully haunting on their third album. “Drugged up on the Universe” rides a reverberating Krautrock rhythm, while “Earth over Us” and “Cosmic Truth” blast droning organ lines into space and “Green Gold” and “Mushroom Spirit Doors” revel in the hallucinatory properties of vegetation and fungi. Vibrato coed harmonies throughout suggest a communal clan in tune with nature, the shifting seasons, death, and rebirth.

Customer Reviews

Wow...this one WOWED ME!

Jacksonface9,

I listen to all genres, though I am a self-professed "metal-head". I was walking through a record store by my home in Milwaukee, when I saw this very attractive album cover on the new release rack. I then pulled up iTunes and sampled a few songs, and I was blown away! By the look of the artwork, id have pegged this somewhere between Witchcraft and Baroness, but what I got was a very finely crafted, very ear-pleasing mix of Witchcraft, Jethro Tull, Blood Ceremony, and early Black Sabbath. This album leans heavily in the direction of lyrically psychedelic, but musically; let's face it, it's spacey, organy, dark 60's rock without the droney, muddy, sludgy, and overly obnoxious guitar tones! If you enjoyed albums like Witchcraft's "The Alchemist", this album is PERFECT for you! Buy it, you won't regret it! Enjoy!
