Album Review

Best known for playing Maude Findlay in television's Maude and Dorothy Zbornak in The Golden Girls, Bea Arthur also has a history in theater, having performed in everything from The Threepenny Opera to the original productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Mame. Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends is the live recording of Arthur's one-woman Broadway show. Arthur, accompanied by Billy Goldenberg on piano, works her magic throughout the performance with personal reflections, bits of humor, favorite songs, and quirky stories. Her unique personality, voice, and appearance (Arthur does the whole show barefoot) create a welcoming atmosphere. Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends is a chance to hang out with an old friend for a trip down memory lane.

Bea Arthur's full potential was never tapped in to until now - and she's over 80 years old! Bea's unique and beautiful voice is in full force on every song, monologue and joke. The material is well selected - a show of standards that had been done to death would have been very easy. Instead, Arthur wisely dug through and found forgotten gems ranging in date from the 1920's all the way to the 1960s! The material is sung very well. The jokes are hillarious. Bea Arthur is truly a star. Buy this now!

Saw the show -- WOW!

I'm always sorry this went up the same time as Elaine Stritch's juggernaut -- it got very little attention as it was steamrollered by the other. But I was fortunate enough to see both shows, by two very different, but in many ways similar, real "Broadway Broads"! Arthur was more low-key, in a setting that made you feel like you were hanging out in her living room. But she's an old hand, and she is professional to the core. And what a career! And what a life!! Take your cue from these ladies and LIVE!!!

Bea Arthur is Magnificent!

Bea Arthur has always been one of my favorite actresses, but this Album is truly amazing. This is Bea Arthur at her peak and prime. She is a phenomenal singer and comedianne. She is an entertainer in every sense of the word.
