EDITORS’ NOTES

Strains of indie folk, gypsy jazz, and vintage San Francisco psychedelia ripple through Wild Child’s debut album, Pillow Talk. What impresses most here is the Austin combo’s excellent songwriting and the friendly, slightly wry vibe they project overall. The easy chemistry between co-lead singers Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins comes through on loping, bittersweet numbers like “Silly Things” and the title tune. The band get raggedly rocking on “Cocaine Hurricane” and take a European cabaret tack on “I’ll Figure You Out” before ending on a nicely abrasive note with “The Tale of You & Me.”
