A Solid EP

I've been following this band for just about a year. I will tell you one thing. They have the talent to take them far. This album is a perfect representation of that. Lyrically, they hit high marks. Melodically, there's strength beyond their years. Harmonically, there's room to improve. If I Could - The first track on the album already hooks you with its brilliant harmony filled intro. The solid and easy melody over a light guitar and simple bass line make this appealing to the ears. The lyrics are desperate and beautiful. Though repetitive melodically, it's a great starter song for the album because it shows the bands versatility and true blend. Fig Tree - Simple musically, deep lyrically. It's not anything hard musically, with simple chord strumming and a basic drum beat. The lyrics are what makes the song real. The faith that these musicians have for God is uniquely twisted into the song. They enlist the help of a background counter-melody and some decent harmonies. Peaches - The most enticing song musically speaking. The intro grabs you even two measures in. Lyrically, this one also excels. It's about finding a new start, or a way home. The use of the piano is a welcome addition. The beauty of the lead singer, Travis' voice is amazingly passionate here. Whisper - The catchiest song melodically in my opinion. The first time I heard this song, I couldn't get it out of my head. The use of music software is most prevalent in this song, but it works. The way that the lyrics and the music blend together is exceptional. Again, this a guitar driven song. Overall, I give this EP 4/5 just because I know that there's more coming from them. They have a great Pop feel yet they don't quite go cliche` because they stick with an Indie/Rock feel hidden within their drum patterns and basslines. Their beauty is in their strong lead vocals, deep lyrics, and catchy melodies.

Wonderful Work

"The final aim and purpose of all music is nothing short of the glory of God and the refreshment of the human spirit." -- J. S. Bach

Pretty good!

If you're looking at this, thinking "same old thing...... young CCM band", then I'd caution you to not to look away too quickly. These guys obviously have great potential, but also a strong sound base already. Songs like "Whisper" show not only they're love of God, but also a great wall of sound that kind of grabs your attention. And hey, they sound awesome live!
