Album Review

Subtitled The Complete Decca Christmas Songbook, Voice of Christmas features every holiday recording Bing Crosby made for Decca between 1935 and 1956. "White Christmas" is here, of course, in no less than four different versions, including a first-take attempt (with a Crosby fluff at the end) from 1942 that, amazingly, has stayed unreleased until now. All the Christmas tunes from the movies Holiday Inn and White Christmas are aboard as well (re-recorded versions with Peggy Lee in place of Rosemary Clooney on the White Christmas numbers), along with all the original tracks from Crosby's Merry Christmas, an album that has stayed in print in one format or another since 1945! Somber takes of "Silent Night" (three of 'em, from three different sessions), "Adeste Fideles" (two versions from different sessions), "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Ave Maria" sit snugly alongside holiday fluff like "Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer," "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas," "Here Comes Santa Claus," and seasonal favorites like "Sleigh Ride," "Jingle Bells," "Twelve Days of Christmas" and "The Christmas Song." The perfect Christmas music set, perhaps?

Even Rockers Love Bing Crosby.....

Regardless of what kind of music you prefer, good is good. And Bing Crosby was GOOD! His voice, to me, is a lot like Karen Carpenter's in that it soothes your soul. I go back in time to Christmas 1970. Buffalo, N.Y. December 23rd. There's about 3-4 feet of snow on the ground. It's a Saturday night. The Christmas tree is set up and decorated, the smell of Christmas cookies is coming from the kitchen, and NBC is showing "White Christmas" on Saturday Night At The Movies. Everytime I watch that movie, or hear ANY of these tunes from this terrific collection, I am transported back there. Don't miss out on a great guy who recorded some amazing music. Download this collection and play it this Christmas in YOUR home. Bake some cookies, trim the tree, and create some fond memories for the people special in YOUR life!

Biography

Genre: Classics

Bing Crosby was, without doubt, the most popular and influential media star of the first half of the 20th century. The undisputed best-selling artist until well into the rock era (with over half a billion records in circulation), the most popular radio star of all time, and the biggest box-office draw of the 1940s, Crosby dominated the entertainment world from the Depression until the mid-'50s, and proved just as influential as he was popular. Unlike the many vocal artists before him, Crosby grew...
