iTunes Review

On White Moth, Xavier Rudd's fourth studio album, he feels freshly and wholly morphed as a solid, smart talent, making unique music that’s difficult to categorize. He's a multi-instrumentalist (bass, lap steel guitar, banjo, harmonica, didgeridoo, various percussion instruments, stompbox, etc.) whose musical creations are driven by his world view steeped in concepts of personal awareness and responsibility as they relate both to the planet and our neighbor next door. His musical instincts and appreciation for old-fashioned hard rock licks, subtle blues flavors, and barbed reggae rhythms add a fired-up feel to the mix so you almost think he’s just having a good time. “Better People” is a light-hearted nod to well meaning people, and has the lilting, feel-good essence of classic Paul Simon. Rollicking tracks “Stargaze” and “Footprint” hint at more of a rock’n’roll sound on the artist’s horizon, and “Come Let Go” has the same mournful feel as Marley’s “No Woman No Cry.” The somber and beautiful “Land Rights,” the delicate flutterings of “Anni Kookoo,” and the sun-drenched didgeridoodling on “Message Stick” have distinctly different sounds, yet somehow evoke the same visceral response in the listener. This is a contemplative set of music driven by a vigorous, pulsating heart.

A crisp contrast of what can be done and where we've been

Just recently turned on to them with a random click in iTunes. Worth your time, truely, The slower paced songs are very good but, where he shines is with his upbeat tunes. His voice is not what you would expect to hear with the blues guitar style but it will pull you in. Do you self a favor, while you are at it and go ahead and listen to the entire album. It's a cohesive single piece not to be taken piece by piece. Enjoy.

Life Changing

Xavier Rudd can change your life. He is a remarkable songwriter. I take him everywhere, in the car, on my iPod, all day in the house. Every word he sings you can feel it deep in your soul. It is pure brain food, soul food, it is love.

Biography

Born: May 29, 1978 in Victoria, Australia

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Like Jack Johnson, independent Australian musician Xavier Rudd combines a love of surfing with a love of roots music. Like Ben Harper, he plays Weissenborn lap steel guitars. Utterly unlike both of those musicians, however, he has a unique setup. Rudd is a one-man band who plays surrounded by instruments in a complicated array —- typically, he has three didgeridoos placed in front of him on a stand, a guitar on his lap, a stompbox by his habitually bare feet, and an assortment of drums, banjos,...
