Another Reason Detroit Rock Won't Die

Pistol Pete plays the stand up base like a man on fire! If you doubt me, listen to "Takin' You Down Tonight". I used to watch these guys in all the local clubs around Detroit, Royal Oak and Pontiac, Michigan years ago. Rockabilly at it's best! Put on your 'wife-beater' tank top and blow your speakers out!

Raw rockabilly fun

Like the other reviewer, I used to watch these guys all the time in Royal Oak a dozen years ago. Pistol Pete & co provide a solid, driving rockabilly experience that I've never heard replicated. This is their first album as the Tarantulas (they were formerly a punk band known as ALD) and though it does not capture all of the energy of the live shows, it is better than 99% of rockabilly recordings I've ever heard. The slide guitar is raw and clean, the doghouse bass is punchy and driving. If you aren't sure, buy "White Trash Express" and "Let's Go" and their cover of Mötörhead's "Ace of Spades" and you'll be convinced. Warning: This album may make you want to grow a pompadour, buy a 50's lincoln, and drink PBR at Gusaline Alley into the wee hours of the night.

** Rockabilly** Good times

Used to see them at the Royal Oak. It was one of those times you wondered how the hell these guys hadn't blown up, and taken rockabilly up with them. Are you under 20? Listen closely. When rockabilly gets big, remember this is what it sounded like when the guys had day jobs. Detroit, motherf*cker.

Genre: Rock

One listen to the fiery and dangerous rockabilly that the Twistin Tarantulas play and it's easy to understand leader/vocalist/upright bass player "Pistol" Pete Midtgard when he explains '50s rockabilly as "... the original punk rock." One of the most aggressive upright bass players and a stunningly charismatic frontman, Midtgard first felt rockabilly was his destiny while playing bass in an Ohio band. He later moved to upstate New York and fronted the Frantic Flattops but a move back to Detroit in...
