Live at The Greek Theatre 2008

Live at The Greek Theatre 2008

In his solo career, Ringo Starr has never claimed to be more than an entertainer. He’s fully aware of his vocal limitations and knows for sure that a certain amount of the audience comes out because he was once the drummer in the Beatles. With all that known, Starr goes about enlisting guests and arranging setlists to give audiences the most bang for their buck. This collection documents the 2008 tour. It features Billy Squier doing “The Stroke,” Edgar Winter offering up a “Free Ride,” Colin Hay of Men At Work asking “Who Can It Be Now” and Gary Wright bringing back the AM-radio haze of “Dream Weaver.” Ringo adds fan favorites such as “Act Naturally,” “Yellow Submarine,” “With A Little Help From My Friends/It Don’t Come Easy” and “Photograph.” The entire performance is a straightforward professional stage-show meant to keep people clapping their hands. There are no moments of grand introspection. No attempts at anything other than giving the people what they want. Nothing wrong with that. It makes a great tour souvenir and the playing is inspired throughout.
