iTunes Review

Philly street poet turned sexy chanteuse, Jill Scott lives up to her billing as a woman with a wild way with words. She uses language to bring tears, cut like a knife, or do some mad dissin'. When she speaks, you can feel the power of her poetry, and when she sings it straight, her jazzy-sexy voice recalls Billie Holiday. The structure of Who Is Jill Scott? allows all sides of the artist's abilities to emerge, which makes listening to it enlightening and exhilarating.

Jill Scott???

Seriously who is Jill Scott? I stumbled upon her music by accident. I was driving down Santa Monica Blvd and this guy in a bumping " A Long Walk ". The voice and the beat was hot, i happen to be driving along side him in traffic. So i turned down my Ludacris and really listened. The song ended and the annoucement stated that was the single from Jill Scott. So the rest of the drive home, i was listening to Luda and in my head sing, "Lets go, for a long walk, after dark....." . A few weeks later i bought the CD (pre-itunes) and wore the CD out. Jill Scott has a voice that commands attention, and songs that speak volumes. Its a Classic at 5 stars in my book. PS: I know who Jill Scott is now.

At 1st I was dumb enough to think that Jill Scott was yet another Erykah Badu clone.... MAN WAS I WRONG!!!! This album is one of those that you just ONLY need to PRESS PLAY....

Jill Scott uses her voice as an instrument...

If you really love music...(and I don't mean just dancing around to whatever is hot and meaningless on the radio today) have to buy this album. The entire album is a journey of the highs and lows of love. You can hear the elegance and strength of her voice in "Do You Remember" - listen to the flow of old school hip hop during "A Long Walk" - and finally get hooked on the expectation of *ahem*...what adults do...with "He Loves Me." (The phrasing is totally baby-making music; it is right up there with Maxwell's "This Woman's Worth"). If you don't want the whole album, these are the must-have's for your collection. Jill Scott is perhaps the most amazing poet/performer in pop music. She makes Alicia Keyes sound like somthing out of an 8th grade musical.

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

A mature R&B vocalist who excelled with slower, sensual material ("Slowly, Surely," "I'm Not Afraid," "My Love") and was versatile enough to pack plenty of punch with anthems of pride and self-empowerment ("Golden," "Family Reunion," "Hate on Me"), Jill Scott grew up in north Philadelphia and began her performing career reading her own poetry. She was heard by Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson, drummer in the Roots, who invited her to join the band in the studio, resulting in the co-composition "You Got...
