iTunes Review

There’s a smoothness to Cary Brothers that recalls a similar sleekness coloring the work of another well-educated, stylized songwriter: Duncan Sheik. At times, Brothers sounds so comfortable with his surroundings that the ease threatens to tilt the balance. But these aren’t meant to be songs of unreserved uplift. There’s struggle involved. So the anthemic, cathartic chorus of “The Glass Parade” may be a bit much, but the quiet, dropping piano notes of “Honestly” put things in perfect perspective. Brothers had an unusual entry into the music business; he met Scrubs’ star Zach Braff in college. Braff featured Brothers’ music in his film Garden State and Brothers has since had his music appear onBones, Smallville, Grey’s Anatomy and ER. There’s certainly a melodramatic aspect to his music that makes it a natural fit for television, but it’s most effectively brought to life with the piano and strings that haunt “Loneliest Girl in the World.”

Absolutely Amazing!

Cary Brothers is an amazing artist and I highly recommend his music to anyone who enjoys beautiful, heartfelt songs. His lyrics will draw you in and you can truly feel what he feels. I first heard his music on Scrubs and then went to one of his concerts just to see what he was about...and I couldn't get enough! Not only were his songs outstanding but he was a truly nice and genuine person. You guys have to get his music! You'll love it, I swear!

Simply Excellent

I've been waiting for this record for a long time, and it's everything I hoped it would be. Ethereal guitars, massive soundscapes, spot-on vocals, and a couple of good old fashioned 80's pop tracks for good measure. In a world of overhyped bands, this very un-hyped record will be the album of the summer for a lot of us.

awesome.

this album is really great for rainy days, driving around or just when you're sad. i really like "precious lie" and "if you were here." for everyone who has a myspace, if you were here has been on their profile for a while. it's one of the best remakes out there and i suggest everyone listen to it and if you're unsure about buying this cd, there are samples on myspace and you don't need to be a member to look at it just google "cary brothers." "if you were here" is like garden state + 16 candles + crack. it's just that great.

Wry, thoughtful singer/songwriter Cary Brothers broke into the mainstream with the single "Blue Eyes," a gorgeously articulate ballad he contributed to 2004's Grammy-winning, hip-artist-showcasing Garden State soundtrack. Born in 1974 to a watercolorist mother and surgeon father, Brothers eschewed the sounds of his native Nashville in favor of Britpop artists like the Cure and the Smiths. Brothers attended college at Northwestern University in the early '90s, where he met Zach Braff, the writer,...
