16 Songs, 1 Hour 24 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The Who’s fifth studio effort is an exhilarating rock ’n’ roll masterpiece stacked with killer songs that made it a staple of ‘70s rock radio. Although many of the album’s most enduring highlights capitalize on the unhinged genius of drummer Keith Moon ("Won't Get Fooled Again,” "Baba O’Riley”), the gorgeous ballads—particularly “Behind Blue Eyes”—are among Pete Townshend’s most heart-wrenching creations. Welcome to the Teenage Wasteland—a place of heartbreak, feverish brilliance, and the hot-blooded euphoria of high-volume rock ’n’ roll.

The greatest Rock album of all time

I mean no disrespect to the 'Stones or 'Zeppelin.
But Who's Next is the greatest album in the annals of Rock 'n Roll. Period.
Roger Daltrey never belted out tunes better than on this album, and in my opinion he has the best voice in Rock. Pete Townshend never played guitar better or wrote better songs.
John Entwistle's bass lines are inspiring and Keith Moon is incredible.
The music is timeless and today's generation knows the music as many songs from this album is used as theme music for TV and commercials.
Pete Townshend is the greatest song writer in the history of Rock, again, no disrespect to Lennon and McCartney.
Who's Next is as good as it will ever get.

Timeless

I was a young man when Who's Next came out initially. With college and an unwanted year in Vietnam behind me, I was looking for my way. Then, this "album" came out. Blew me away in 1971. Some great music doesn't survive the decades, some bands have great songs but no lasting cohesive album or CD in their history. The Who have many timeless recordings (My Generation, Tommy, Quadrophenia, Live at Leeds, but Who's Next is timeless. Every song, even Entwistle's "My Wife" hold up over 4 plus decades. It is one of the top 10 rock albums of all time, in my opinion. And, I would suggest that Won't Get Fooled Again isn't even one of the top four songs on it. Yes, I am an old man now, but still listening to new rock n roll and loving new bands with talent. But, they too often pale in comparison to The Who in their prime. And this album is their timeless masterpiece.

This is one of few albums I can say I truly like every song with reservation. In my opinion it is one of the
greatest Rock albums of all times!
