Album Review

With 1999's The Three Calamities, Switchblade Symphony continue their evolution into one of darkwave's most open-minded and far-sighted groups. Jazzy and electronic elements sculpt deep grooves into songs like "Invisible" and "Copycat," while "Naked Birthday" and "Therapy" update the group's faster, more accessible style. Delicate pieces like "Monsters" and "Anmorata" show off Susan Wallace's compositional skills, and Tina Root's versatile vocals heighten the theatricality of "Wicked" and "Fear." The Three Calamities builds on Switchblade Symphony's prior musical successes and puts them ahead of the curve, resulting in the group's most interesting and accomplished album.

Great Introduction to this band.

By far there most mature album and it features good simple guitar riffs which I didn't think would work for this band but they proved me wrong, I wish all the great artists of our time got the credit they deserve and this album is by far a standard in any of the Electronic genres worth mentioning. Naked Birthday has literally saved my life, the lyrics truly sum up what I go through day to day, with things like "you will never see it, you never will know, you never will feel it, where did you go." LOL my take is the total dehumanization of yourself as a person and existing as this zombie until you basically die a slave to the system. That's my take as a soldier anyway.

this album is awesome

This is by far my favorite album of theirs. It's a bit lighter than their other work while still being gothic and electro-ish. It may take a while to warm up to it, but you'll love it. Trust me. Songs I reccomend are Naked Birthday, Wicked, Fear, Into the Sky, and Invisible. Viva la Switchblade!

This new jazzed up version of the band is incredible they can mold their music into any genre they want. I wish they never went apart. This is their best Cd though hands done

San Francisco's Switchblade Symphony formed in 1989, when vocalist Tina Root and composer Susan Wallace were introduced by mutual friends in the local goth music scene. Frustrated with the musical projects they were currently involved in, the duo began collaborating and performing, and soon won a devoted audience. As Switchblade Symphony, Root's musical theater training and Wallace's film-scoring experience showed in their theatrical vocals and orchestrated, dreamlike sound. Early, self-released...
