Defying convention, yet again!

Once again, John Mark McMillan proves himself as one of the most -- if not THE most -- important writers of the modern church. In this stage of his career, where other artists usually decide to collaborate with CCM mainstays and compromise their artistic flair for hopes of greater acceptance, McMillan goes the opposite way choosing instead to stand in the face of market expectations and release a single which defies what convention says he "ought" to do. This song is a breath of fresh air. Gutsy lyrics as well - "The Wilderlove is hidden within us, and we wrestle with it." Genius. If this is a sign of what is to come from his next record, I believe an audience far greater than his current constituency will be affected. This is a MUST HAVE single, in my opinion. Well done, John Mark McMillan! Bravo!

This album is going to be soul sauce

Totally digging the use of the eastern instruments and the 80s synth vibe. Beautiful words about the wrestle within the human heart. Soul sauce.

About John Mark McMillan

Singer/songwriter John Mark McMillan was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He issued his debut album, Hope Anthology, Vol. 1, in 2002, followed in 2005 by The Song Inside the Sounds of Breaking Down, the latter of which included the single "How He Loves," which has since gone on to become a popular and oft-covered worship song. The Integrity Music-issued Medicine and Economy arrived in 2010 and 2011, respectively, followed in 2014 by Borderland, which was issued via his own Lionhawk label. That record hit the Top 50 of the Billboard 200, a first for McMillan, and in the summer of 2015, he released the You Are the Avalanche EP with his wife, Sarah McMillan. It was followed that fall by a live album titled Live at the Knight, which featured special guest performances by Kim Walker-Smith, Bryan & Katie Torwalt, and Sarah McMillan, and had been recorded earlier in the year at the Knight Theater in Charlotte, North Carolina. ~ James Christopher Monger & Marcy Donelson
