iTunes Review

Yellow/Gold is presented as two EPs released as one album, with Yellow reportedly focusing on nostalgia for the trio's shared childhoods along the Pennsylvania/Delaware border and Gold addressing their lives today in New York City. The lonesome piano number "So Simple So True" ends the first EP, while the shuffling, Technicolor "Nightmare" kicks off the second half. The trio—James Cleare, Heather Robb, and James Smith—harmonize especially well, and their carefully tended instrumentation creates an impressive amount of space in the songs. "Only Skin" and "Chicago" evoke the classic forms of early-'70s pop music, suggesting the group spent years listening to James Taylor, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Fleetwood Mac, and even The Carpenters. There's a pure, unsensationalized musicality to works like "Crushing Pennies," "Wildfire Forest," and "Watch the Moon Disappear" that makes their music a refreshing burst of unpretentious ability and execution.

I'm blown away by the level of talent on this CD. This is a must-buy. Then, once you buy it, go back and listen to their older CD's. The maturity comes through on Yellow//Gold, but I'm convinced that TSS has never written a 'bad' song. Great stuff!

I discovered these guys at the Bowery Ballroom in New York after a recommendation from a friend. I was so blow away by them live that I've been a fan ever since. This album particularly WILDFIRE FOREST, HEAVY HOME is like the others. It's music that sinks inside of you and stays. Really great stuff. I imagine they'll hit big very soon.

These guys are just incredible. Once I heard Only Skin I was done. The whole cd is great!
